Raising Ranch Kids

We raise kids here on the ranch, outside, hands-on, in the dirt, checking on cattle, snow or shine……everyday.

Is it any surprise that one of our toddler’s first words was “bull”?

“Yep, all the bull calves look good today Papa Rich.”

We supervise equipment repair, “Daddy who plugged up the TMR mixer”?

We climb fences.

We pick rocks.

And more rocks………

We get dirty.

Never a dull moment chasing a toddler on the ranch.

        Hi Michael,

We actually have a one room school house in the closest small town to the ranch. Jim went to school there and if all goes as planned our little one will go to school there as well. The school has 5 students this year (K-6).

I happened upon your blog. Our family of 4 (in our 30s with a 4 and 6 year old) is considering a huge move across the country to Montana. My run 3 businesses and are interested in changing our lifestyles to live more off the land and pursue our dreams of being more self sufficient. My husband is interested in working cattle, and I’m interested in being a stay at home mom to take care of the kids, keep house, a garden, preserve food and etc. I wondered if there were any resources you might be able to point me to, for information on moving to Montanta. Also, possible job opportunities for my husband. Thanks so much.
